The Easter holidays are very nearly here bringing with them chocolate eggs, hot cross buns and two weeks of trying to keep the kids busy. 

If you plan celebrate Easter in London then you will be pleased to learn that there are lots of Easter treats in store. This is a really fun time to be in the city; the weather is warmer, the cherry blossoms are in bloom and the city feels that little more carefree now that the days are getting longer. Plus, the first of a handful of bank holidays are temptingly close.

Easter Sunday 2025 falls on April 20, making it one of the latest Easter dates in recent years. Easter Monday falls on April 21. The Easter holidays for most schools in England run from Monday 7 April to Monday 21 April 2025. 

In London, family events are taking place throughout the Easter holidays but there are some special events taking place over the long Easter weekend including Easter egg hunts in London, Easter trails, Easter weekend services and maybe even the chance to catch a glimpse of the Easter bunny himself.

Big Egg Hunt 

See if you can find all 100 egg sculptures scattered around central London this month during the Big Egg Hunt.

Decorated by famous names including Mr Doodles, Anya Hindmarch and artist Philip Colbert, the 2ft tall hidden eggs will be in London neighbourhoods including Covent Garden, Chelsea and Marble Arch as well as destinations such as Battersea Power Station and Buckingham Palace. 

The Big Egg Hunt takes place 24 March to 27 April

The Lindt Gold Bunny Hunt at Hampton Court Palace 

This Easter, Hampton Court Palace invites children aged 3 – 12 years old to discover the stories of the fascinating people who visited, lived and worked at the palace AND be in the chance of winning some chocolate! 

Follow the trail map to find the Lindt Gold Bunny statues hiding around the palace gardens. Match up the name of the palace character on the trail to the red ribbon on the bunny statue and tick if off your list to – fingers crossed – win a chocolate reward at the end (non chocolate prizes are also available). 

This year the Lindt Gold Bunny Hunt takes place 29 March – 21 April 2025 and is included in admission price. Pre-booking is highly recommended. 

Horniman Spring Fair 

One of our top picks for Easter activities this year is taking place at the Horniman Museum. The annual Spring Fair schedule is packed with live music and performances, circus skills and hooping, a spring disco, the Spring Bonnet parade, mega bubbles, and much more. This is always a fantastic way to celebrate the easter season.

This year the Horniman Spring Fair takes place on Saturday 19 April 2025, 11am – 4pm. Adults £6, children under 16 £6, infants (under 2) are free. Make sure to book online in advance.

The Mantis Muse at the Horniman Museum 

The Horniman Museum are running a series of workshops inspired by David Shrigley’s The Mantis Muse sculpture – a three-metre tall steel and fibreglass sculpture with an animatronic head – that will be on display in the Victorian Conservatory over the Easter holidays. 

Workshops include Screen Printing, Drawing and Colouring, Family Yoga, and Stories and Crafts. Check th website for details. 

The sculpture will free to visit in the Conservatory on the following dates:

The Poet’s Predicament at The Tower of London 

The famous poet Geoffrey Chaucer (author of English Literature A level favourite, The Canterbury Tales among other texts, once worked at the Tower of London as Clerk of the King’s Works. He may have died in October 1400 but he’s back at the Tower for the Easter holidays, trying to balance the demands of the clerk’s job with his writing. 

Look out for Chaucer as he goes about his working life at the Tower, trying not to be interrupted by four medieval characters who keep popping up, wanting to tell him their stories. 

The Poet’s Predicament live performance takes place daily from 10.30am to 4pm between 5 April and 29 June 2025 and is included in palace admission.

Easter Biodiversity Family Festival at the Natural History Museum 

The Natural History Museum is hosting a series of family-friendly activities and events over the Easter holidays, including talks, crafts and tours celebrating life on Earth

Enjoy Family Nature Talks, Meet the Scientists, become a LEGO® Biodiversity Super Builder, explore the Dinosaurs Gallery out of hours and more. 

The activities and events take place between 5 April and 20 April. Check the museum website for exact dates. Some activities are paid for. 

Easter family fun at the Southbank Centre

The Southbank Centre always delivers an exciting programme for kids and young people and this spring is no exception. Learn how to beatbox with BAC Beatbox Academy, watch a performance of The Lion Inside, play in a recycled playground and much more. 

Spring Family Fun events start on 5 April and run until 1 June 2025. 

Easter events at the Arts Depot 

There are lots of egg-scellent performances taking place the North London’s Arts Depot this Easter including stage adaptations of The Baddies, The Worst Princess and Pirates Love Underpants bring songs, laughs, and wonderful stories for the littlest members of your family.

Younger children will love Indefinite Articles and their show, Claytime, a play with clay, where the audience help invent the show.

For older children there’s Farm Boy, a feel-good tale based on Michael Morpurgo’s sequel to War Horse. Another good options is The Vanishing Forest, a Shakespearean-inspired show which follows the events of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, performed by the English Touring Opera.

Easter Afternoon Tea Bus Tour 

B’s Bakery run excellent afternoon tea bus tours across London on board cherry-red original Routemaster buses. For the school holidays they have a special Easter themed afternoon tea, where you can see London’s landmarks, discover some of the city’s history and enjoy tasty sandwiches, delicious cakes and pastries, and possibly an Easter chocolate or two. 

The Easter Afternoon Tea Bus Tour takes place 12 to 26 April. Make sure to book in advance. Adults are from £45 and child tickets are from £40.

Easter Trail at the Chelsea Physic Garden

The Chelsea Physic Garden is running a series of Easter-themed events and activities over the school holidays including their self-led arty trail. Children are encouraged to unleash their inner artists as they learn more about the planets and animals that live in the gardens and complete their trail booklet. At the end of the trail, each child will receive a small chocolate treat

Other activities include a chocolate making workshop and a soap making workshop. Check the website for dates and to book tickets.

Zoonormous Egg Hunt at London Zoo

For the most eggcellent day out this Easter, join the Zoonormous Egg Hunt – a fun family trail starting in the heart of the ZSL London Zoo.

Solve riddles to guide your path, collect all the clues and, if you can unscramble them, you will make it to the secret golden egg while learning about some incredible animals along the way.

There’s also the chance to win a stay at the London Zoo Lodge with every Easter booking (If you book tickets to visit during the Easter holidays (5-21 April).

The Zoonormous Egg Hunt family event takes place 5  – 21 April and is included in the admission price; tickets must be booked in advance.

Splash! at the Design Museum 

Celebrate the a Century of Swimming and Style at the Design Museum’s latest exhibition. Splash! explores swimming pools, lidos and nature and examines how design influences our experiences of swimming in each.

The exhibition opens on 28 March and runs until 17 August and, if you’re feeling inspired post-museum visit, then here’s a selection of the best swimming pools and lidos in London to enjoy. 

Supertato at Kew Gardens 

Everyone’s favourite potato superhero, Supertato, is coming to Kew Gardens this Easter promising a spud-tastic day out with his veggie friends. This fun-filled event invites kids to join Supertato’s Super Squad, thwart the Evil Pea and save veggies in distress. 

Discover how fruits and veggies grow, dress up and snap a photo with Supertato and his friends and more this Easter break

The activities are included in the gardens admission. Supertato and friends will be at Kew Gardens from 5 to 21 April. 

Keeping London Moving at the London Transport Museum 

The London Transport Museum are running a series of events over the Easter school holidays celebrating 25 years of Transport for London (TfL) and the many way it keeps London moving from buses and trains to boats and even cable car. 

Workshops include All in a Day’s Work, an interactive storytelling session all about a big red London bus; Map Your City, an arts and crafts activity where you will get to create your own London Underground-style map; Mini-Buskers, which celebrates the buskers on the London Underground; Across the Thames, invites children to design a new mode of transport to cross the River Thames; and London Lifesavers, run by the London Ambulance Service, will teach visitors lifesaving skills.

Mini Creators: Mural Makers at The Postal Museum

The Postal Museum’s new exhibition explores St. Thomas, a Caribbean island home to many expressive murals. This Easter, the museum is inviting kids to come create designs using pictures, colours and messages of joy and activism. The individual creations will come together to form a temporary collective mural that will symbolise the role of the individual within the wider community, and celebrate the power of murals to express creativity.

Mini Creators: Mural Makers runs from 5 – 13 April, excluding 7 April from 10:00-16:00 and is a drop-in event.

Easter Holidays: Beauty on the Bridge! 

Head to Tower Bridge over the holidays for some fun family-friendly activities exploring the many beautiful patterns featured on this iconic bridge. Use these designs as inspiration and then make your own tin foil tile to take home. 

Beauty one the Bridge! takes place on Tuesday 8 April, Saturday 12 April and Tuesday 15 April between 10am and 4pm These are drop in sessions and are included in the price of an entrance ticket. 

Easter Family Trail at Chiswick House 

An eggscellent adventure is coming to Chiswick House in time for Easter in London. The Easter Family Trail will be available from 10.30am to 2.45pm across the Easter weekend and starts in the kitchen garden. The trail costs £3 per child. 

Spring Surprises Discovery Days at Hyde Park 

Now is the perfect time to visit the Royal Parks, in particularly Hyde Park where their popular, free Discovery Days celebrate the arrival of spring. 

Drop in between 11am and 3pm and enjoy a range of activities including pond dipping, a spring nature trail, making a seedball to plant at home, interactive games, storytelling sessions and more. 

Spring Surprises drop in sessions take place from 8 to 10 April, between 11am-3pm. 

Also taking place over the Easter school holidays is Marvellous Mammals, a series of fun activities inspired by the different mammals that live in the Royal Parks. 

Dress up like a squirrel, learn to identify mammal tracks, listen to stories and more. 

Marvellous Mammals takes place 15 – 17 April from 11am-3pm.

Story Seekers at the Imperial War Museum 

Held daily during the Easter holidays are the Imperial War Museum’s popular Story Seekers trail. Explore the museum’s galleries and discover the real-life stories of the people behind the objects from surviving at sea to extraordinary acts of bravery

Story Seekers will run daily during the Easter school holidays except for on 15 April. 

Also taking place over the holidays in the museum’s Clore Learning Centre is the chance for families to discover what it means to make a museum and why the IWM tells the stories that it does. Get creative and add your own story to the museum’s Family Canvas. 

Secrets of the Thames: Mudlarking London’s Lost Treasures at the London Museum Docklands 

Opening in time for Easter holidays is the latest exhibition at the London Museum Docklands. Secrets of the Thames the first major exhibition on mudlarking and explores the fascinating finds from the Thames foreshore including a Tudor headdress, a Medieval gold ring, a Viking era dagger and event a pair of 18th century false teeth!

Now Play This at Somerset House 2025

London’s leading festival of experimental games is back at Somerset House. The festival, which showcases the latest in independent and experimental game design from around the world, is a great thing to do in London with teens

Now Play This takes place on 11 April from 9am to 10pm and on 12 Apr from 10am to 5.45pm. 

Family Workshops at Shakespeare Globe

Shakespeare’s Globe always has interesting events for families and this Easter is no exception. 

This Easter, there are two workshops based on The Tempest, one aimed at young children aged 5 – 8 and the other at children aged 9 – 12.   

There is also a Macbeth workshop taking place for children aged 9 – 11, introducing the spooky and bloody story set in medieval Scotland.

Hunt the Green Dragon Eggs at the London Museum of Water & Steam 

The London Museum of Water & Steam needs your help this Easter holiday. The dragon that lives on Green Dragon Lane has hidden her eggs around the museum but hid them so well that she can’t remember where they are! Follow the trail and find the eggs before they hatch – complete the hunt and you will receive a special Easter prize at the end. 

The (dragon) easter egg hunt costs £3 in addition to the admission ticket and takes place daily from 5 April to 24 April. 

Making Egypt at the Young V&A

Making Egypt, the new exhibition at the Young V&A and promises a fun family day out. The exhibition explores ancient Egypt’s creativity and how it continues to influence art, design and popular culture today.

Much like last year’s (excellent) Myths to Manga exhibition, Making Egypt will link antique items from the V&A archives with modern phenomena: what influence has Egyptian design hand on Minecraft for example. Highlights from the V&A vaults include the fully painted inner sarcophagus of Princess Sopdet-em-haawt.

Easter Adventure Quest at Eltham Palace and Gardens 

Eltham Palace and Gardens are hosting an egg-cellent adventure quest this Easter in London. Explore the grounds for clues and challenges, take part in traditional Easter games such as egg rolling, keep and eye out for Easter eggs and receive an Easter treat at the end! 

This year the Easter Adventure Quest takes place on from 5 April to 27 April, 10am to 5pm, and costs £2 in addition to the normal ticket price. Book online and save 15%.

National Trust Easter Egg Hunt at Ham House 

Easter egg hunts are always fun but particularly when you have to solve clues as you go. This Easter, visitors to Ham House are being transported back to the Civil War and asked to collect clues at 10 outdoor games stations and help save Ham House!

The egg hunt takes place daily from 5 April to 21 April between 10am and 5pm, and costs £3.50 per child. 

Easter Activities at the Little Angel Theatre 

The Little Angel Theatre has some fun family-friendly activities taking place over the school holidays inspired by the popular story – and current production of – A Squash and a Squeeze. Craft, decorate and bring to life puppets inspired by the characters in the story. The workshop is aimed at children aged 3 – 6

Children need to be accompanied by adults for this workshop and each adult and child needs their own ticket.

The Great Turtle Odyssey at the Sea Life London Aquarium 

Discover the amazing lives of turtles at the SeaLife London Aquarium this Easter including the places they go, the animals they meet, their incredible skills and what they like to eat – and more!

Easter Egg Trail at the Cutty Sark

Cutty Sark’s chickens have got loose and laid eggs around the ship, and they need your help to find them! Climb onboard this world-famous ship and follow the trail to spot hidden eggs scattered around. Collect all letters on each egg, unscramble the secret nautical code and receive a chocolatey treat! 

Aimed at children ged 5+, this is a fun way to explore the Cutty Sark

Decoding Pictures at The National Gallery 

The National Gallery are running a series of family-friendly events this Easter including tours of the gallery with a member of the Educator team to learn how to unlock the secrets within pictures.

Easter Fun at Vauxhall City Farm 

Vauxhall City Farm is the perfect place otherwise celebrate Easter with a handful of fun family activities. Take part in the farm’s annual Easter Egg Hunt (5 April), make your very own Easter Bonnet (8 April) and celebrate Earth Day (19 April). 

The farm is open Tuesday – Sunday 10:30am – 4:00pm.

Easter at Battersea Power Station

There are lots of reasons to visit Battersea Power Station this Easter, not least to see some of the large-scale eggs taking part in the Big Egg Hunt

Over the Easter weekend, the Power Station will be hosting its first-ever chocolate market, The Chocolate Station, with stalls selling chocolate, eggs, truffles and more. There will also be a range of family-friendly activities, including bungee trampolines, bumper cars and arts and craft sessions over the Easter weekend including chocolate slime workshops, easter basket and plant pot decorating. 

Free Easter fun at Paddington’s Merchant Square

Head to Merchant Square on Friday, 11 April for a free Easter Egg Hunt and charitable celebration. From 11am to 4pm across the 11-acre estate, the annual event promises a day of Easter-themed fun for children of all ages, in particular 4-12 year olds.

This year’s adventure features “Hunt for the Hidden Eggs: A Whisker-Twitching Easter Adventure!” – a special character-led story experience where families will join the Marvelous Mouse Twins, Max and Milo, to help find the directions to their hidden Easter feast. 

Also taking place is the Easter Bunny Hunt, where families can collect maps and search for special Easter yard signs throughout the Square, with chocolate prizes for successful hunters.

Lloyd of the Flies, Wetland Bug Hunt at the London Wetland Centre

Help Lloyd and his tour guide Dart the dragonfly find Lloyd’s friends and family, and make their way to the bug hotel this Easter at the London Wetland Centre.

Strike a yoga pose like Cornea the Butterfly, ‘bee’ the best dancer like Yard the Bee and form your own ant conga like Queen Libby the Ant.

Families can also ‘shrink down’ to fly size and see the world through an insect’s eyes, by downloading Aardman’s augmented reality app: Lloyd of the Flies AR Bug Hunt.

Participating in the Lloyd of the Flies Wetland Bug Hunt is included in the price of a WWT admission ticket or is free to WWT members.

Easter Egg Hunt at Osterley Park and House 

Follow the Easter egg trail and find poetry-themed, nature-inspired activities for the whole family this Easter at Osterley Park and House. The trail takes place between 5 April – 21 April, and promises some fun in the Great Outdoors AND chocolate at the end! 

The Easter trail costs £3.50 plus the cost of admission. National Trust members and under 5s go free.

Easter Egg Hunt at Morden Hall Park 

An egg-citing Easter trail awaits families at Morden Hall Park in South London. Follow the trail, enjoy nature-inspired activities and be rewarded with a chocolate egg at the end. 

The Easter trail runs from 16 April – 21 April, from 10am – 4pm and costs £3.50. 

Messiah on Good Friday at the Royal Albert Hall

Amazingly, the Royal Choral Society has performed Handel’s Messiah on Good Friday afternoon at The Royal Albert Hall every year since 1876. The only exceptions were during the Blitz 1940-41 and during the Covid pandemic 2020-21. 

This year, the concert takes place on Friday 18 April at 2.30pm. The event is not recommended for children under 5.  Buy your tickets here.

The Passion of Jesus in Trafalgar Square 

The annual performance of The Passion of Jesus is taking place again this year in Trafalgar Square on Good Friday, 18 April at 12pm and 3.15pm. 

The biblical story is brought to life by the Wintershall Players and involves more than 100 actors and volunteers who come together to recreate the day Jesus is believed to have been arrested, tried and crucified. It’s a pretty realistic interpretation of events to parental guidance is advised. 

The performance is free to attend and last 90 minutes each. You are advised to arrive about 40 minutes before as it gets very busy. If you can’t make it in person then they will livestream the performances on the Wintershall Players’ Facebook page. 

Holy week and Easter services

Church services will be held at Westminster Abbey, Southwark Cathedral and St. Paul’s Cathedral on Easter Sunday.
